Austin: Senior Grad | HOH Rainforest, Washington

Austin reached out to me about wanting to do his senior photos with me this year but I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to fit Portland, Oregon in my schedule. I was super bummed to find out that again I couldn’t make it (was suppose to come out for a different shoot with him in March 2020 - but we know what happened then). However, I was going to be in Washington over the summer. Immediately without hesitation, he told me that he was going to drive to me from Portland - how awesome! Austin is graduating as a film major and wanted more of a moody vibe and location. I thought you know what? Washington works out because it’s always gloomy. Eh, I was a little wrong. Most of my visit was completely sunny. I’m not complaining but really not what I was expecting. Our location I picked was pretty on par with the vibe he was hoping for though.

The roots in the trees looked super neat so I found a little makeshift tree chair and branch hanger.

Mossy texture, over 100 species of lichen, and luscious ferns are parts of this magical place.

Hanging moss on the old trees were the absolute highlight for me.

Some trees in this rainforest are over 1,000 years old!

I think the outfit choice, the good weather, and the nice hike through the Hoh Rainforest made for a good day. The Hoh Rainforest is located in Olympic National Park which is a day trip from Seattle.

Congrats Austin, thanks for putting so much time and energy towards having me as your photographer! I’m so lucky to have people behind the camera so open and eager to travel like me.
